Hi —
I’m David W. Drell, a software engineer passionate about using computer vision, embedded systems, and scalable architectures to solve real-world problems in imaging, tracking, automation, and beyond. I blend deep technical expertise with a strong drive to deliver robust, well-engineered systems — whether that’s automating microscopy analysis, building real-time video pipelines, or architecting scalable cloud services.
What I Do
I specialize in:
- Computer vision and image processing, including 2D/3D image analysis, tracking, and motion-based reasoning
- Embedded and edge systems, especially NVIDIA Jetson, embedded Linux, and real-time video streaming
- System design and architecture, focusing on reliable, maintainable, and scalable software
- Cloud-integrated pipelines and services for image processing, ML inference, and automation
My toolset includes C/C++, C#, Python, CUDA/TensorFlow, Qt, .NET, AWS, and a wide range of embedded OS platforms. I also build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automated test frameworks to ensure high-quality, well-architected codebases.
Background and Credentials
- M.S. in Communications (EE – Modulation and Information Theory), George Washington University
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering, University of New Orleans
- 27 U.S. patents granted
- Contributor to multiple peer-reviewed publications in automated microscopy analysis, computer vision, and drug-screening workflows
How I Got Here and Why I Care
My engineering journey has always combined theory with application. With foundations in electrical engineering and information theory, I’ve built a career turning complex ideas into practical, production-ready systems. Over the years I’ve worked across embedded vision, automated imaging, head-tracking, real-time video analytics, and ML-driven analysis pipelines.
I believe well-designed software should be both powerful and elegant — solving real problems while remaining maintainable, reliable, and scalable. That philosophy drives the systems I architect and the teams I mentor.
What I’m Working On Now
- Developing advanced computer-vision pipelines and ML-enhanced imaging systems
- Building and refactoring large-scale C++, Python, and C# systems across embedded, desktop, and cloud platforms
- Collaborating on research-driven projects in microscopy, real-time tracking, and automated analysis
- Exploring opportunities for senior-level engineering and architectural roles where system design, performance, and innovation matter
